Community Affairs Department
The Community Affairs Department is the part of the City Manager’s Office which oversees three major divisions for the City of Cedar Park: the Media & Communications Office, Resource Efficiency Division, and Legislative Affairs.
Media & Communications Division
The Media & Communications Office is responsible for the creation, dissemination and circulation of City news, promotion of Cedar Park in the media, management of government access cable channel CPTV-10, the City website, and the City's social networking outlets. Other responsibilities include photography for special events, advertisement design and placement, creation of publications, marketing, and branding.
Emergency Management Division
The Emergency Management Division is responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of all emergency management and Homeland Security related activities for the City of Cedar Park. The mission of the Cedar Park Office of Emergency Management (CPOEM) is to lessen the loss of life and reduce injuries and property damage during natural or man-made incidents through mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery in accordance with the Williamson County Emergency Operations Plan. CPOEM also coordinates the activities for the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC, when activated is a central location where representatives of local government, emergency services, non-profit organizations and private sector agencies convene during disaster situations to make decisions, set priorities and coordinate resources for response and recovery.
Resource Efficiency Division
The Resource Efficiency Division addresses the environmental needs of our community, staying up to date with many programs that offer our citizens assistance in being environmentally friendly. This staff person administers the Cedar Park Conserves program, which promotes conservation to ensure our long-term water supply and preserve our water quality, encourage recycling and proper disposal of solid waste, increase energy efficiency, and promote clean air.
Legislative Affairs Division
Each session of the Texas Legislature, the Community Affairs Director assists with the development of the City’s Legislative Agenda and monitors the activities of the State and Federal legislative bodies, reporting any developments to the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Council. The fundamental goal of all City of Cedar Park legislative activities is to produce positive outcomes for the citizens of Cedar Park as a whole.
In addition to the aforementioned areas, the Community Affairs Department serves as liaison between the public and the City when important issues and special situations arise. In this role, the Community Affairs Department helps communicate to the City the interests of citizens and other stakeholders as well as the City’s position to such groups, in an effort to reach fair decisions and middle ground for everyone involved.
