Less than six months after the U.S. Census Bureau named Cedar Park the Fourth Fastest-growing City in the Country, three studies show Cedar Park at the top of the list in terms of quality of life and safety.
The national online real estate brokerage firm Movoto has ranked Cedar Park as the Fifth Most Desirable Suburb in the Country and Third Best Small City to Move to in the Nation. Movoto's studies are based on rankings of amenities such as shopping, dining and entertainment; the cost of living; education; unemployment; household income, and crime.
Movoto found that Cedar Park’s unemployment rate is 8.2 percent below the national average and that the median household income in Cedar Park is $70,914, which is 35.5 percent above the national average and 43.5 percent higher than the statewide average. With a crime rate 52 percent lower than the national average, Cedar Park is the safest city in Texas that made Movoto’s Most Desirable Suburbs list.
Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell called the Movoto study “meaningful, and yet another recognition for the City we are trying to build” during his opening comments at Thursday’s City Council meeting. “I am personally very proud to live here and incredibly honored to be in this role,” Mayor Powell said. “I think Cedar Park residents should be incredibly proud of this recognition.”
In addition to the Movoto study, the security corporation SafeWise has ranked Cedar Park near the top of its 50 Safest Cities in Texas list, released this week. SafeWise combined data from recent FBI Crime Reports with their own research to create the list and rank Cedar Park at 10. SafeWise calls the low crime numbers in Cedar Park “remarkable” for a city of its size.
Police Chief Sean Mannix attributes the low crime rate to the partnership between the police and the community. “Cedar Park is a wonderful family community with a high expectation of a good quality of life and a low tolerance for crime and criminals,” Chief Mannix says. “The hard-working men and women of the Cedar Park Police Department work with our community every day to make Cedar Park one of the safest cities in Texas.”
The recent findings from Movoto and SafeWise are consistent with other rankings of Cedar Park in recent years. Family Circle Magazine has named Cedar Park one of the Ten Best Towns for Families, Forbes Magazine has ranked Cedar Park one of America’s Fastest-Growing Suburbs, and for several years Cedar Park has had one of the lowest crime rates for cities of its size in Texas according to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s annual Crime in Texas Report. All of these rankings are independent and unsolicited.
