Mission

The City of Cedar Park Applications division, a division of the Information Services Department, is an internal activity that supports city departments in the design, development, implementation and integration of computer information systems that support city departments and in critical decision making. The Applications division can provide professional services required for developing, maintaining, and supporting enterprise-class business applications.

The Applications division provides analytical services to leverage the collected information and create applications, GIS mapping projects, and web-based analytics that directly support long range city planning, asset management, spatial and demographic analysis, project planning, and institutional support.

 

Services

Geographic Information Systems

  • Distribute geospatial and non-geospatial datasets to departments and public, through internal database systems
  • Acquire commercial datasets for internal use:
    • Pictometry Imagery and LiDAR
    • Development of 3D building model
    • Demographic Data
    • Business Data
  • Acquire and facilitate access of departmental datasets for internal and external use, including key basemap datasets such as the City’s parcel fabric and street centerline network.

Enterprise Applications Support

  • Custom application development and enhancements
  • Large/enterprise-class relational database:
    • Development
    • Enhancements
    • Maintenance / management
    • Business process development / assistance

Responsibilities

Open Data Services

  • Distribute geospatial and non-geospatial datasets to departments and public, through internal database systems

Infrastructure platform for GIS services

  • Internal
    • Maintain interoperable RDBMS-based GIS/SQL database system
    • Provide ArcGIS Server services to departments
  • External
    • Currently under development

Maintenance of Licensing Agreements/Inter-local Agreements with:

  • ESRI
  • CAPCOG
  • Williamson County

GIS technical expertise and support to departments

  • Technical support for field data collection efforts
  • Conduct departmental IS needs assessments
  • Creation of ad-hoc GIS mapping products and solutions

Technical Educational opportunities for City employees

  • Quarterly IS User Group Meetings and newsletter for demonstrations and exchange of ideas.
  • Access to free online courses for city staff.
